Spotted Wing Drosophila appears to be on the doorstep of BC's lucrative berry market. SWD lays its eggs inside of ripening soft fruits. Crops at risk include raspberry, blueberry, strawberry, grapes and stone fruits. Trapping and monitoring for this pest is possible with homemade traps. Ripcord and malathion have been granted an emergency registration for control of the pest. Contact the office or your field rep for more information on how to build and maintain traps and identify the flies being caught.
